financial LiteracyFinancial Literacy is an exploratory class for 8th graders. The purpose of this course is to get students to start thinking about their financial future. Students will explore the value of the almighty dollar and various expenses that are a part of every day living, such as, utilities, types of insurance, food, taxes, etc. We also look at ways to properly budget, save, and invest.
During this class, students will be given various projects where they are given a budget and they need to complete different tasks, such as, plan a vacation, stock a house, purchase a vehicle and set up a payment plan, purchase a house and set up the loan and repayment process, etc. By the end of the year, hopefully students are knowledgeable about finances in the real world and have a plan to manage their money.
